While researching this project, I realized how the defined generations and demographics of the American population has a direct relational cause and affect on health care and the projections of diseases. The nursing homes' population is predominatley Alzheimer's and related dementia patients. Therefore, this is the population of nursing home residents I focused on during my research, and when I wrote the paper. My research revealed some very shocking information and statistics regarding this disease. Yes, the information was shocking and at times upsetting: however, writing this paper taught me how the information and statistics I found during my research can be used to help entities of health care, government agencies, and researchers to plan and be more prepared for future health care events.
This course is very explicit in defining what constitutes a health record and the purposes of a health record. As I reflect on the variety of information that I learned, what strikes me the most is the purpose of the health record. The health record serves as more than just a record of patient care. The information and data that is collected and stored within the health record contains information that can be used the serve the American population as a whole, The health record may be thought of in the context of being useful for a single patient. Each single patient health record contains a wealth of information that is used for the general population of America. Depending on the circumstances, the health records of patients in America can impact the well-being of global health. Now, when I think of the health record, I think of it being more than just a patient record of care. I now realize how important health records are for research, different health organizations such as the CDC and WHO, to control and track disease outbreaks, reporting data for various statistical functions, vaccines, health initiatives, administrative purposes, and for developing clinical practice guidelines and protocols.
